Finally have the Taimar up and running. Just waiting for the papers to come back from FFVE to complete the immatriculation.
Does anyone have any experience of converting an M series to LHD, know anyone who can do it and how much it would cost?
Regards
Jaybe
LHD Conversion
Re: LHD Conversion
For a Lotus Elise : between 3000 and 5000 euros. Must be done by a professional and then approved by DRIRE with rearview test at UTAC.
No idea about the price for a TVR...

Re: LHD Conversion
For my Caterham, £3k done by a skilled mechanics (department 86), and validated by the DRIRE without having to go through UTAC tests again.
UTAC tests request depends mainly from the place you are : each DRIRE (one in each department) has the potential capability of acknowledge or not the modification depending of the mood of the guy in charge of your file.
Technically speaking, I do not know the Taimar chassis yet. Hopefully, as it is a space-frame chassis, it might be easy to achieve. Generally speaking, problems in side converting a car come from the exhaust, or any big engine ancillary, if located in the space where the steering will be installed. Another question is the feasibility without having to strip pout entirely the car. Is the dashboard available in LHD, of can it be realized by one skilled joiner ?

Re: LHD Conversion
Hello,
I'm quite sure you won't find a professionnal who have ever done it in France and I think it will be difficult to find one who want to do it.
But it's possible, you can see here : http://anciennes-49.xooit.fr/t646-78-TV ... ?start=120 (23/06/2009 and after)
It's done by "black_runner" (his name here)
ps : sorry for my English speaking (writting)

Re: LHD Conversion
I know a professional who may be interrested to do that near Rennes (35 - Bretagne), he is working for "British Piston" and he likes unsual cars...
Re: LHD Conversion
This type of conversion is considered as serious car modifications. It must be validated and the insurance must be made aware of this mod. But none of the above will happen if the work has not been carried out by an offical agent with new and approved spare parts.jaybe a écrit :Finally have the Taimar up and running. Since there are no more legal TVR agents on hearth and virtually no new spare parts sold by the marque, any LHD conversion has great chances to remain illegal.
You're better of driving your RHD and that's all.
Good luck
